On Thursday, August 18, 2022, local legend Julian L. Hunsaker passed away at the age of 66. Julian grew up in many places, for which he had great love an appreciation, including Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Mexico. He was well known for his charm and charisma as well as his talented athleticism at Durango High School and beyond. Julian worked many jobs but was most famous for the mark he made at Ziem’s Ford as a legendary car salesman.
Julian loved camping, fishing and sports and was a devout Denver Broncos fan, as well as any other team representing the state of Colorado. Durango, Colorado played a special role in his life as it was where he met some of his closest friends and was the setting of some of his greatest stories.
In 1987 he met and married Mona Lisa and began a family that would soon include Jennifer, John, Julian Paul and Ashley Nicole as well as Zeus and Conan his beloved Alaskan Malamutes. His “family” stretched much wider than that, as he preferred to be referred to as Uncle Jules and introduced others to his children as their “aunts” and “uncles” as well. This represented the type of man that he was, always wanting to make people feel good, have a good time and be loved.
Julian was preceded in death by his father Ernie, mother Betty (Chickie), wife Mona and son Julian Paul. He is survived by his son John, daughters Jennifer and Ashley, and his brother Michael.
